Once More into the Breach

What a busy week we’ve had. The last seven days have been spent rereading and editing our ms, to get it agent-ready. Two whole days were spent on the epilogue alone! But, it finally met our approval and we sent it off on Monday and the agent should get it today.

A random aside: Each time I type agent, I keep thinking of Agent Smith from The Matrix. We hope the ones we send it to will have a bit more heart.

Anyway, now we have started working on our next book. Kelly is going to a writers conference at the end of July, so our goal is to have the outline and first chapter completed by then.

Stay tuned!

Back to Doing Stuff that's Fun for Us

Last night my husband and I (OK, mostly me) decided to take our two children, ages 5 and 3, to an outdoor rock concert at a street festival in Chicago. It was fantastic. We went to see My Morning Jacket (who I've also added to my list of favorite bands). My oldest was totally into it and now wants to play bass. And my youngest had so much fun entertaining the people around us by doing interpretive dances to the music. We were going to get a babysitter for the event, but couldn't on such short notice, and so we had an even better time and saved fifty bucks.

Family Fun's version of a festive volcano cake. Talk about putting blood, sweat and tears into your dessert creation... Posted by Hello

Volcano Cake from May 2005 issue of Woman's Day  Posted by Hello

Volcano Cakes or Something More Sinister??!

Our first novel (Title TBA) is also about the pressures of Perfect Momism. When our heroine, Jane McCartney, moves to the eerily perfect town of San Niguel, one of her first tasks is to make a "sweet artistic dessert creation". She pours body and soul into making the perfect cake...which, along with other competition-level feats of mothering, ultimately leads to her undoing.

Here are some volcano cakes for your digestive delight and intellectual scrutiny. At what price, perfect Stella D'Or breadstick and spearmint gumdrop palm trees????

Two time zones, One book

How did we get here? This is our very first blog entry. We are composing this using VNC screen sharing and our cell phones to bridge the 2000 miles between us. Intrigued? So are we!
Six months ago, we would never have expected to be doing this. It all started over a wine-soaked poker table and an idea so crazy that it just might work
